Common questions
- What is an estate sale?
- An estate sale is a sale of most of the contents of a home, held on site over one to three days. Families hold them after a death, a move to assisted living, a divorce or a big downsizing. A professional company usually sorts, prices, advertises and runs the sale in return for a share of the proceeds.
- How much does an estate sale company charge?
- Most companies work on commission, commonly somewhere between 30% and 50% of gross sales, and the rate depends on the size of the sale and your local market. Some add fees for cleanout, dumpsters or advertising. Always ask for the full list of charges in writing before you sign.
- Does it cost anything to request help here?
- No. Sending a request through EstateSales.Tools is free for families, and you are under no obligation to hire anyone we introduce.
- Is there enough in my home for an estate sale?
- It depends on the company and the area. Many have a minimum they need a sale to bring in. If a full sale is not a fit, a cleanout, a buyout or a consignment arrangement may be. Tell us what you have and we will point you in the right direction.
